Treatment Options

Going through a complete assessment of your personal fertility has a great importance on choosing the right treatment option since each treatment is suitable for a specific patient group regarding their fertility requirements.

Initial testing process is the first step infertility assessment. Detailed information where we describe some basics can be found in our "Infertility Testing and Interpretation of Test Results" section. Next, on the ; "Choosing the Right Treatment" section, you can come across some treatment suitable to some patient groups regarding factors such as; age, fertility assessment, previous obstetric history as well as history of fertility.

Together with the treatment, patient's lifestyle has also a great effect on the outcome of the treatment. Therefore, please do not forget to check our "Boost your Fertility".

Deciding on the clinic for your treatment might be challenging for you as you may have many choices around. However, be aware not to choose a clinic that is willing to proceed any treatment without a thorough evaluation of your personal needs. Please note that IVF is a personal, unique treatment and there isn't a single prescription applicable for everyone.

Some treatment options offered by the North Cyprus IVF Clinic is listed below. For more information, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. We will be more than happy to assist you.

Sickle Cell Disease

Sickle cell anemia is caused by an abnormal type hemoglobin called hemoglobin S and is a case where the red blood cells are sickle shaped.

The job of these hemoglobin molecules is to bind and carry oxygen to the tissues but in the presence of abnormal hemoglobin molecules, this delivery is less optimal and can cause problems.

HBB gene mutation is the cause for sickle cell disorder however with our PGD (Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis) treatment you can prevent passing this gene onto your children.

If you are at risk for passing sickle cell please visit the link below for further information about our PGD IVF treatment for genetic disorders.

Repeated (Recurrent) Miscarriages Further Investigation

Repeated (Recurrent) miscarriage is defined as the loss of three or more pregnancies. If you have experienced a single pregnancy loss, the odds are, you are not likely to have another miscarriage. However, if miscarriages are recurrent and are experienced in similar time frames of a pregnancy, further investigation will be needed. Recurrent miscarriages can have many possible causes. When a patient experiences several miscarriages, then it will make sense to get evaluated for the conditions below:

1- Genetic Factors
All couples with a history of recurrent miscarriage should have peripheral blood karyotyping performed. The finding of an abnormal parental karyotype will necessitate consultation with a geneticist. Certain genetic abnormalities can be screened for through PGD testing while others might require alternative avenues.

2- Cervical Weakness
This is a known anatomical cause of recurrent miscarriages. The cervix (or neck of the womb) is normally strong enough to remain closed throughout the course of pregnancy, in spite of the ever-increasing size and weight of its contents. In fact, it remains strong throughout pregnancy and near the time of labor, special hormones are released to make it softer so that it is dilated enough for a successful baby delivery. With an incompetent cervix, the cervix is anatomically weak, making it unable to carry the baby. Typically, miscarriage caused by an incompetent cervix occurs between sixteen and twenty-four weeks of gestation.

3- Endocrine Factors
The term endocrine hormonal factor in infertility refers mainly to the absence of ovulation, which results in disorders of the menstrual cycle (oligomenorrhoea, primary or secondary amenorrhea) and less commonly to the condition of luteinized unraptured follicle. In cases of oligomenorrhoea or amenorrhea satisfactory results can be achieved with conventional ovulation induction methods, avoiding the use of assisted conception techniques.

4- Immune Factors
These can include Antithyroid antibodies, Antiphospholipid syndrome, Alloimmune factors. There are tests that can be administered. In some cases, we find that suppressing your immune system response around the time of embryo transfer reduces the likelihood of an implantation failure and a very early miscarriage.

5- Infective Agents
TORCH (toxoplasmosis, other [congenital syphilis and viruses], rubella, cytomegalovirus and herpes simplex virus) screening is unhelpful in the investigation of recurrent miscarriage. These infection diseases can cause implantation failures, therefore, IVF failures as well as pregnancy losses after implantation has occurred. Having tested for infectious diseases will rule out this possibility.

6- Inherited Thrombophilic Defects
Inherited thrombophilia defects, including activated protein C resistance (most commonly due to factor V Leiden gene mutation), deficiencies of protein C/S and antithrombin III, hyperhomocysteinaemia and prothrombin gene mutation, are established causes of systemic thrombosis. A thrombophilia gene panel needs to be evaluated to make a diagnosis.

Egg Retrieval and Embryo Transfer

The decision regarding the timing of the third injectable medication (Ovidrel, or HCG) is determined by a combination of events that include size and number of the leading (largest) ovarian follicles observed on ultrasound and blood level of ovarian hormone/s.  The timing of the Ovidrel/HCG injections is critically important as your egg retrieval procedure is scheduled at a specified hour following this injection. You will be provided with clear instructions regarding the timing for this injection. You must not eat or drink anything past midnight the night before the egg retrieval.Male Partners: The day your partner is instructed to take the Ovidrel or HCG injection, it is recommended that you ejaculate in order to have a fresh sample with healthier sperm available on the day of egg retrieval (unless you are instructed otherwise).

Egg Retrieval

Please note that your partner must accompany you to provide his sperm specimen at the time of your scheduled egg retrieval.  You will meet with our expert IVF nursing staff on your arrival for the scheduled egg retrieval procedure. Please feel free to mention any concerns or questions you may have before the procedure. After your paperwork is reviewed, including consents, and after all your questions are addressed, an IV will be placed in one of your arm veins for administration of medications during the egg retrieval procedure. You will then be chaperoned to our procedure room for the egg retrieval that takes approximately 30 minutes (depending on the individual patient’s ovarian response – as retrieval of eggs from a larger number of ovarian follicles may take a few extra minutes). The egg retrieval involves a transvaginal ultrasound almost identical to the scans performed during the monitoring process. We use a combination of intravenous sedatives and local anesthetic to keep you comfortable during the egg retrieval procedure. A needle guide is attached to the side of the vaginal ultrasound probe, to accommodate the egg retrieval needle; under ultrasound guidance, the needle is passed along the ultrasound guide through the wall of the vagina into the ovary and the fluid within the visible follicles is aspirated; this fluid contains the egg surrounded by cells. The aspirated fluid is passed on to the embryologist who identifies the egg from each aspirate.

Embryo Transfer Embryo transfer is a simple, painless procedure that is performed under abdominal ultrasound guidance.

When to transfer embryos:The timing of embryo transfer is dependent on the number and quality of available embryos and on individual patient related circumstances. Embryos are almost exclusively transferred on Day 3 (cleaving embryos) or Day 5 (blastocyst stage embryos).

How does one decide on the number of embryos to transfer:The decision on how many embryos to transfer is based on a number of factors including the age of the female partner, her prior reproductive history and health profile (placing in perspective risks of multiple pregnancy for the woman), the number and quality of the available embryos, and couple’s acceptability of selective reduction in the event of a high order multiple pregnancy (more than twins) resulting from embryo transfer. Couples are encouraged to discuss these considerations and communicate their concerns and preferences at any and all times through the IVF process. Your infertility specialist will review your embryo status including fertilization, embryo development and the quality of embryos on the day of embryo transfer. The embryology team and your infertility specialist will identify the most optimal of the embryos available for transfer.

Procedure of Embryo Transfer:You will be asked to come in with a full bladder, change into a procedure gown and will be taken to the procedure room. For patients who have previously undergone an insemination, embryo transfer is a similar procedure. With you lying down, one of our trained staff members will perform an abdominal ultrasound scan (which requires a full bladder to allow optimal visualization), while your fertility specialist gently cleanses the cervix with the fluid your embryo/s are bathed in. The pre-selected embryo/s will be “loaded” into an embryo transfer catheter; the catheter is passed on to the fertility specialist who performs a trans-cervical embryo transfer under the guidance of abdominal ultrasound. For the majority, the procedure of embryo transfer takes just a few minutes. You should not feel any discomfort during the embryo transfer procedure, and will be asked to remain reclining for an additional 15 minutes.

PGD - Gender (Sex) Selection IVF in Cyprus

At North Cyprus IVF, one of the treatment options that we offer is PGD for genetic testing and family balancing purposes.

Gender (sex) selection IVF is also a growing concept in the field of IVF. Allowing parents to choose the sex of their baby prior to conception has raised a number of debates on the issue, but regardless of what has been said and written on the subject, sex selection has been a way balancing families and eliminating genetic disorders that are associated with X or Y chromosomes.

PGD genetic testing is also an option when families would like to select the gender of their baby for family balancing purposes. The embryo biopsy will not only allow us to select embryos that are free of genetic abnormalities, but will also allow us to determine the sex of the embryos. Once PGD is performed, the chance of having a baby of desired sex is very close to 100% once pregnancy is achieved. This process is also known as gender selection (sex selection) IVF.

PGD works very much like conventional IVF. The only difference is; embryos that are formed in the laboratory are subjected to a biopsy and a series of genetic tests before transferred into the uterus.

New technologies are now allowing some couples to choose the sex of their child before pregnancy. Many couples wish to have a child of a particular sex in order to prevent certain medical illness or to help balance their families and this is known as gender (sex) selection IVF. North Cyprus Fertility Clinic is the only clinic in Cyprus with its own genetics department, which allows performing gender selection IVF treatment in house.

PGD is one of the most successful methods when it comes to gender selection. This is a complex procedure that involves the creation of embryos that are then analyzed for cell structure and DNA. Embryos are created in a laboratory and allowed to divide. After three or four days, one cell from each dividing embryo is removed and analyzed for DNA and genetic material. Once the sex of the embryos are determined, only those embryos of the desired sex are implanted into the mother’s uterus through IVF. PGD is highly successful, giving you a 99% chance of having a child of the desired gender.

Gender Selection IVF works very much like the IVF procedures explained in the “IVF” section under “Our Services”. However, the embryos that are formed using the IVF procedures undergo genetic testing known as PGD before they are transferred into the uterus. Therefore, in gender selection IVF, the five step IVF procedure requires a sixth step, which comes right before the embryo transfer step.

North Cyprus Fertility Clinic offers low cost, high success Gender (sex) selection IVF by using state of the art technology in fertility treatment and a team of experts. Our genetics laboratory employs a biogenetical engineer, a PhD embryologist and a lab assistant. We are the very first IVF clinic with two separate IVF laboratories and its own research center.

PGD testing for Genetic Disorders

PGD (Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis) technology improves the likelihood of a successful pregnancy and birth for two distinctly different groups of patients. Couples with infertility related to recurrent miscarriage or unsuccessful IVF cycles and couples who are at risk for passing on inherited genetic disease to their offspring.

PGD genetic diagnosis is performed as a part of an In Vitro Fertilization cycle where multiple eggs are produced, retrieved from the ovaries and fertilized with the husband's sperm in the Embryology Laboratory. IVF is necessary to give us access to the embryo in vitro. At their earliest stage of development, one or two cells are removed from each embryo through a procedure called embryo biopsy. These cells are analyzed in the PGD Laboratory to determine which embryos are free of genetic abnormalities. This sophisticated and technologically advanced testing identifies which embryos are free of abnormalities and more able to achieve the patient's goal of a healthy baby. PGD can screen for genetic disorders in chromosomes X, Y, 13, 18 and 21, which make up for about 85% of all major genetic conditions such as Down's syndrome, Tay Sachs and klinefelter's syndrome and many more.

PGD tetsing is also an option when patients require screening for a specific genetic disorder. When the gene that carries the genetic disorder is identified, single gene analysis can be performed in order to screen for the specific disorder. A special PGD probe can be built for this purpose as long as the specific cause of the genetic condition has been identified.

Patient Testimonial

Hi,

I went to Northern Cyprus IVF Clinic in September 2012 for a donor egg IVF cycle. I enjoyed the experience, the staff were friendly. The most things i liked about the place is the responsiveness to patient needs. I did a progesterone test at the clinic on the day i was going back home and they phoned me right away after the  testing telling me to come for a porgesterone injection because my level was relatively low. Through a prior IVF cycle i did in Amman, Jordan, i didnt experience the post procedure care that i did with Cyprus IVF. I also liked that they arrange your stay at the hotel, have someone drop you off and pick you up from the airport all included in the IVF cost.
I am now four and a half weeks pregnant, i dont know if the pregnancy will result in a live birth or not, but i know that the clinic delivered their service well. I do think that the clinic building and furniture need a little remodeling, but then again, if you end up being pregnant you wouldnt really care what kind of sofa you sat on.
Good luck to everyone trying to get pregnant! I recommend North Cyprus IVF for someone looking for low cost and good service.

Microsort IVF and PGD

Microsort IVF (invitro fertilization) with PGD (pre-genetic diagnosis) is considered to be the most effective and accurate gender selection method available.
The treatment process and medication is the same as Microsort with IVF where the sperm is sorted into X and Y, however once the embryos are formed and have developped to the 8 cell stage, there is a biopsy perfomed for both genetic testing and gender (sex) selection.
Combining the PGD with Microsort increases the success of the desired gender from 75-90% up to 99.9% and allows for genetic testing to take place to ensure that the healthiest embryos are transfered.
PGD is a procedure that is generally recommended for older women who’s eggs have a higher risk of abnormalities.

North Cyprus Fertility Center is the only clinic in the world to offer both of these procedures together for the highest accuracy of both gender and genetic abnormality free embryos and offspring.

Gender Selection PGD

Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is the technology used to improve the success of pregnancy and birth. Couples who have had repeated miscarraiges or unsuccesful IVF cycles as well as couples who might be at risk at passing inherited genetic diseases should consider having this testing done along with IVF.

PGD is also a very successful method to choose the gender of your child and is performed during the IVF cycle after multiple eggs are produced, collected and fertilized. Once the embryo has been formed, one to two cells are retrieved and an embryo biopsy is performed on it.  The cells are analyzed at our in house PGD Laboratory  to establish which embryos are healthy and free of genetic abnormalities. This testing which is sophisticated and advanced helps to ensure the baby is healthy.  This process helps to select both healthy embryos along with determining the sex of the baby.
After the PGD is performed, the chances of achiving the desired sex is 99.9%.
The PGD process is the same as regular IVF however the embryos are kept in the laboratory for a 3-4 days longer to undergo biopsy. The following chromosomes are biopsied for abnormalities: X, Y, 13, 18 and 21.

North Cyprus Fertility Clinic is the first IVF clinic in Northern Cyprus to have two separate IVF laboratories and its own research center.  This allows us to provide  low cost gender (sex) selection IVF wiht state of the art technologies and high success rates. Our genetics laboratory  team includes a biogenetical engineer, PhD embryologist and lab assistant.

Gender (Sex) Selection in the UK

Gender selection in the United Kingdom is prohibited by law, therefore, UK patients are not able to choose the gender of their babies for family balancing purposes within the UK. However, UK patients are able to travel abroad for this treatment option.

Given the difficulty of traveling for great lenghts of time for the working people, we have established links with IVF specialists, and scan clinics in the UK, so that our patients can have their preliminary work performed in the UK and then travel to Cyprus for only about a week. This way, our patients feel more comfortable receiving pre-treatment with a local doctor under our supervision and only travel for a short period of time to finalize their treatments.

Having this option, UK patients are able to take advantage of IVF technologies in Cyprus without compromising the legal issues associated with gender selection treatment.

Patient Testimonial - PGD

Dear North Cyprus IVF Center,

Thank you for your email.

Happy New Year.

We arrived in Cyprus on Monday 5th Dec2011 and returned on 14th December 2011.

Overall we were very happy with the care and the treatment we received.

The PGD did not give us clear answers hence we transferred only one embryo. (Age 41, please see success rates and information about egg quality).

Unfortunately we were not successful on this occasion as the embryo did not implant.

We have got 3 frozen embryos in the clinic.

We will be getting in touch with Dr Savas about the next step with regards any further tests etc required for the implantation failure which was the cause of an unsuccessful cycle this time.

Regards,

H.S - Manchester, United Kingdom

Please contact us if you would like to get in touch with this patient.

Patient Testimonial - Egg Donation

Just to let you know that we never went for a HCG blood test, instead we decided to wait a little longer (we know if we tested too early it would be a false reading) and do a home pregnancy test instead and it was fabulous news-I am pregnant.

After the previous IVF that failed, we can't quite believe that the test result is positive!!

Thank you for all of your help and heartfelt thanks to the clinic.

We will let you know of our progress!

A and G, V from UK

Short & Sweet Patient Testimonial

We're pleased to say that everything went well for our transfer on Sunday and now we're prepared for the 'big 2 week wait'!!

The Doctors were very nice and we were really pleased with their treatment and with all the staff and the clinic itself. I would recommend them regardless of the outcome, but we have fingers crossed that this is the last time we have to try.

A.A, UK
