In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) with ICSI

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the process by which an egg is fertilised by sperm outside the body. Subsequently, the embryos considered to be the best are placed into the woman’s womb with the use of a plastic catheter.

At North Cyprus IVF, this process is followed through five basic steps;

1) Fertility testing and identifying the right type of treatment as well as the precise dose of medication.
2) Hormone supplements and stimulation of healthy egg(s) in the ovaries.
3) Collecting the eggs.
4) ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection); Combining the eggs and sperm in the laboratory for fertilization and embryo growth.
5) Embryo Transfer.

At North Cyprus IVF, we guarantee the highest quality treatment with the best quality standards at low cost.

For any more information including cost of our IVF ICSI treatment and medical details, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Treatment Options

Going through a complete assessment of your personal fertility has a great importance on choosing the right treatment option since each treatment is suitable for a specific patient group regarding their fertility requirements.

Initial testing process is the first step infertility assessment. Detailed information where we describe some basics can be found in our "Infertility Testing and Interpretation of Test Results" section. Next, on the ; "Choosing the Right Treatment" section, you can come across some treatment suitable to some patient groups regarding factors such as; age, fertility assessment, previous obstetric history as well as history of fertility.

Together with the treatment, patient's lifestyle has also a great effect on the outcome of the treatment. Therefore, please do not forget to check our "Boost your Fertility".

Deciding on the clinic for your treatment might be challenging for you as you may have many choices around. However, be aware not to choose a clinic that is willing to proceed any treatment without a thorough evaluation of your personal needs. Please note that IVF is a personal, unique treatment and there isn't a single prescription applicable for everyone.

Some treatment options offered by the North Cyprus IVF Clinic is listed below. For more information, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. We will be more than happy to assist you.

IVF with ICSI at North Cyprus IVF Clinic

The process of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)  treatment can be simply described as the combination off eggs with sperm in the laboratory environment. As a basic part of this procedure ICSI Is performed so that the best quality sperm is selected and injected into the nucleus of the egg for fertilization. As a result, we catch the opportunity to get potentially the highest quality embryos.

At North Cyprus IVF, IVF treatment is performed through below mentioned five steps;

1st Step: Visiting your gynecologist for pre-testing and a sonogram.

2nd Step: Based on those results, a preliminary work and stimulation of the ovary.

3rd Step: Arriving Cyprus where a final sonogram is executed so that the patient is prepared for the trigger injection.

4th Step: Egg retrieval and in vitro fertilization.

5th Step: Transfer of the embryo transfer.

Our experts as well as IVF specialists at North Cyprus IVF are always more than happy to enlighten you with your IVF treatment options.

Choosing the right treatment for you

Unless you have had a thorough infertility investigation to identify your reasons for infertility it could be difficult to choose the correct treatment.
Since each patient is unique, the same treatment will not fit everyone.

We suggest that the first step be to have the following hormone tests on days 2-3 of the menstrual cycle in order for us to interpret and prescribe the best course of treatment :

FSH
LH
E2
Prolactin
TSH
AMH

Boost your Fertility

Even though infertility may not be something that can be completely cured with what you eat or what you do, it may still be possible to boost your fertility and aid with your chances of success with natural conception or with infertility treatments. Since women are the ones to carry a pregnancy, they should be more careful about certain habits:

1- Weight Management: Watch your weight and make sure your BMI stays within a healthy range. Excess body fat is not only detrimental to your health, but can also trigger overproduction of certain hormones that can possibly disrupt ovulation. Similarly, being underweight result in underproduction of these hormones and your body may not produce enough of them for ovulation.

2- Eat Right: Make sure that you eat healthy and that you receive enough protein, iron, zinc, folic acid and Vitamin C. Deficiency in these nutrients have been associated with variations in menstrual cycles as well as miscarriages. Folic acid is especially important during pregnancy for the neural development of your baby. If your busy schedule does not allow you to measure precisely what nutrients are in your body, it will make sense to receive a daily tablet of "one a day" vitamins.
Another very important tip to know about boosting your fertility is eating more alkaline. The more acidic the body's environment, the more difficult it us for the sperm to complete its journey and reach the egg for fertilization. Sperm survival is dependent on the correct pH balance. Therefore, avoid foods and drinks that are too acidic and opt for a more alkaline diet.

3- Avoid drugs, cigarettes and excessive alcohol consumption. They are not only detrimental to your health, but toxins in cigarettes and drugs can damage your eggs, negatively affect the fertilization and implantation processes and can contribute to aging of your ovaries. Excessive alcohol consumption has been linked to altered levels of estrogen, which can cause implantation failures.

4- Avoid Stress: Clinical studies indicate that women under stress and psychological distress are less likely to conceive. There is no single prescription for stress management. You should do whatever works for you. Reading a book, yoga, meditation, short weekend getaways, writing your own book! are some examples.

5- Have sex! Regular intercourse have been shown to help with more predictable cycles and normal ovulation. Having intercourse at least once a week will help keep things in balance...

6- Make sure your partner stays healthy as well! The same things that can affect your fertility are likely to affect his fertility as well. Therefore, heavy smoking, excessive drinking anf eating unhealthy are never a good idea for anyone! It has been shown that receiving Vitamins C, E and Selenium are associated with production of healthier sperm.

Infertility Testing & Interpreting Test Results

Infertility testing can be very different for different patient groups. For instance, if you have been trying to conceive for some time without success and have had no prior testing and/or investigation done, then the starting point will be the following:

For female partner:
- A sonogram will need to be performed on day 2 or day 3 of her menstrual period. This sonogram will be indicative of the number of antral follicle count (potential eggs for ovulation) and it will give your gynecologist a chance to observe if there are any problems such as cysts in the ovaries, or polyps/fibroids in the uterus/cervix that can possibly interfere with a successful pregnancy process.
- On the very same day, FSH, LH, Estradiol, Prolactin, TSH and AMH hormone tests will need to be administered to make an assessment of the ovarian function. Each of these hormones reflect a different aspect of your fertility. Our specialists at North Cyprus IVF will evaluate your test results and provide a comprehensive feedback on your test results.

For male partner:
- A semen analysis will need to be performed according to WHO 2010 Criteria, as explained in the "Causes of Male Infertility" section.

For couples who have had their initial testing and perhaps have been through a round of fertility treatment will need further investigation. Based on the problems or the lack of problems that may have been observed in initial testing, the following will be investigated:
- A hysterosalpingography for a thorough investigation into the tubes and the uterus
- Infectious disease screening for both partners including Toxoplasmosis, CMV and Chlamydia for the female partner. Sometimes a small infection can cause your body to reject embryo implantation and therefore prevent you from getting pregnant. A short cure of antibiotherapy can sometimes be a solution to a long-suffered infertility problem.
- A karyotype analysis for chromosome testing. If one of the partners suffers from an abnormal karyotype, a genetic problem may be transferred to the offspring. The nature and the severity of the problem will be indicative of what types of measures should be taken.

For couples with repeated IVF failures and/or repeated miscarriages, in addition to the tests mentioned above, female thrombophilia testing will be in order including the following:
MTHFR C677T
MTHFR A1298C
Factor II
Factor V Leiden
PAI 1
Thrombophilia defects can potentially cause blood clotting problems, where blood clots can get into the placental circulation and stop your baby's heart, therefore, resulting in a miscarriage. Thrombophilia defects have also been identified with implantation failures.

This is not a comprehensive list of infertility testing and we may ask for different tests depending on your unique history of infertility.

Which tests will you require for treatment?

We require a series of tests for fertility assessment / fitness for pregnancy as well as infectious disease screening. Each and every test that we order serves a different purpose and each one of these tests will have an implication for your treatment.

For assessment of fertility, we ask each female patient to have the following testing done on day 2 or day 3 of their menstrual cycle: FSH, LH, Estradiol, Prolactin, TSH and AMH hormone tests. The AMH test is independent from your menstrual cycle and can be done at any time, but our patients find it easier to have all the tests done on the same day during their visit to their doctor. It will also be important to have a base line pelvic ultrasound scan during this visit for antral follicle count in the ovaries and to check that there are no major visible problems in the uterus that can interfere with a successful pregnancy.

The male patient is required to have a semen analysis done. Especially if he has not had a child in the near past, it will be important to observe sperm parameters such as count/volume/motility/morphology/pH level and round cell count. In some cases, a small infection in sperm can compromise the whole process, therefore, it is important to be prepared for possible precautions that we may need to take.

All patients undergoing treatment at our practice are required to undergo infectious disease screening. This includes patients undergoing donor treatments as well. There are three main reasons for infectious disease screening:
1- To protect the spread of infectious diseases at our lab and to avoid exposing other patients to these diseases.
2- To avoid exposing embryos to infectious diseases that might come from their parents.
3- To protect lab personnel from exposure to infectious diseases when handling egg and sperm cells.

The validity of infectious disease testing is six (6) months. As long as patients have their testing done within the 6 month period prior to their treatment time, we do not require a repeat test. However,if patients do not have current test results, then we will administer these tests here at our practice prior to handling any samples.
Only the test results from reputable clinics and hospitals will be accepted, and original test results will need to be presented at the time of your first visit.  Photocopies and scanned email attachments are only accepted as temporary proof of testing until we see the originals.
The infectious disease tests required by our practice are as follows:
For female patient: Anti-HIV, Anti-HCV, HbsAg, VDRL, Rubella IgG, CMV IgG, and Toxoplasmosis IgG
For male patient: Anti-HIV, Anti-HCV, HbsAg, VDRL.

Tips for Conceiving: 6 Must-Try Baby-making Ideas

Trying to conceive a baby can be tougher than it sounds.  Making a baby should be as simple as having sex, but that’s not always the case.  If you’ve been trying to conceive and haven’t gotten pregnant, here are must-try baby-making ideas to help you get pregnant right away.

Use an ovulation prediction kit
If you’ve been winging it or just having sex when you feel like the time is right, you may not be having intercourse during a time when you can conceive.  Timing intercourse close to ovulation is one of the best ways to get pregnant.  An ovulation prediction kit will tell you approximately when you will ovulate.  Once you get a positive result, you can expect to ovulate in the next day or two.  If you start having sex as soon as you get a positive result and continue for 2 or 3 days after, you will have a greater chance of conceiving.

Pick up the pace when you feel aroused or wet
Just before ovulation you will start to feel wetter.  Your cervical mucus increases and becomes stretchy, thin, and slippery.  It will look similar to egg-whites.  If you notice egg-white mucus or you feel wet, it could likely mean that you are approaching ovulation.  Sexual arousal and an increased sex-drive are also signs that you are fertile.  Women often feel more aroused when they ovulate due to hormonal changes that happen around that time.

Aim for the "O"
Sometimes couples lose that loving feeling when they are trying to conceive, but enjoyable sex may be the key to getting pregnant.  There is some evidence that female orgasm can improve your chances of getting pregnant.  The debate is out on this, but the theory is that when a woman has an orgasm, the rhythmic contractions help to suck the sperm up into the uterus.

Stay in bed
What goes up, might come down… and out.  This is the rationale behind staying in bed after sex.  Some women will even prop a pillow under their hips to help keep sperm inside the vagina longer.  The pillow may not be necessary, but it can’t hurt.  Staying in bed for 20 minutes after intercourse will help ensure that sperm have had time to travel towards the fallopian tubes and will help keep everything from leaking back out.

Try the Sperm Meets Egg Plan
The sperm meets egg plan is an easy to follow plan that makes timing intercourse easy.  This is how it works.  After your period, starting on cycle day 8 you should try to have sex every other day.  On cycle day 10, you should start testing with an ovulation test kit every day until you get a positive result.  Once you get a positive test you should try to have sex for 3 days in a row.  Then skip one day.  Then have sex again.

Have sex 2 days before you ovulate
Researchers have evaluated the timing of intercourse with pregnancy outcomes and what they discovered was that having intercourse two days before ovulation was the best time to get pregnant.  This is likely because of a process known as capacitation.  Capacitation takes place once sperm enter a woman’s body.  When sperm enter the reproductive track they go through a series of changes that make them more mobile and allow them to penetrate the egg.  This process takes up to 10 hours.  Thus, having sex a couple of days before ovulation, ensures that there are ready-to-fertilize sperm available when the egg is released during ovulation.

Sperm Retrieval

The usual way of producing sperm for use in Assisted Reproductive Technology is manual stimulation.  In cases where medical or religious factors prevent this, surgical methods can be used:

PESA
PESA (percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration) is a method, performed under local anesthesia, which involves extracting sperm with a fine needle from the epididymis or testes.  The sperm is then implanted into the egg through the process of ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) to be used in IVF.

TESA & TESE
In cases where the epididymis does not contain any sperm, because of impaired sperm production, the method of TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration) or TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction) may be used.  TESE involves a surgical biopsy of the testis, while TESA is performed by sticking a needle into the testis and aspirating fluid and tissue with negative pressure.

MESA The most invasive of the surgical sperm retrieval procedures is MESA (micro-epididymal sperm aspiration), which is performed under general anesthesia. MESA involves the cutting open of the scrotum to retrieve sperm. The wound is closed with dissolvable stitches. Swelling and pain subsides within a few days, during which prescribed painkillers may be taken to ease the pain...

Cytoplasmic Transfer

Cytoplasmic transfer is one of the latest innovations in IVF treatment. Even though cytoplasmic transfer in itself is not a treatment method, it is a procedure than can be used alongside with IVF. The main purpose of cytoplasmic transfer is to aid women who suffer from infertility due to deficient or damaged mitochondria, contained within an eggs cytoplasm.  Deficient mitochondria can lead to recurrent implantation failures and high levels of embryo fragmentation, which are causes of poor embryo development, and therefore,  a failed IVF cycle.

Damage to mitochondria is often observed at higher ages, therefore, women in late 30s or early 40s are more prone to IVF failures due to compromised mitochondria. Cytoplasmic transfer uses the patient's own eggs but also requires a younger patient so that a healthy cytoplasm can be obtained for cytoplasmic transfer to take place. The younger patient's cytoplasm helps rejuvenate the patient's eggs and can increase the chances of success accordingly.

At North Cyprus IVF, we offer cytoplasmic transfer in order to give you a few more percentages of success. Make sure to ask us about our cytoplasmic transfer option to find out if you are suitable for this program.

Egg Donation Program

Egg Donation IVF is the treatment method for women who do not have healthy eggs for conception. The following list indicates women who are ideal candidates for egg donor IVF treatment at North Cyprus IVF clinic:

- Women who are going through premature menopause
- Women who have had their ovaries removed and therefore do not produce eggs
- Women who have undergone cancer treatment and have damaged ovaries
- Women who were born without functioning ovaries (Turner's syndrome)
- Women with poor ovartian reserves
- Women with hereditary genetic disorders
- Women who have had multiple miscarriages due to chromosomal abnormalities
- Women who have had multiple failed IVF attempts with own eggs.
- Women who are menopausal.

Who Are Egg Donors at North Cyprus IVF?

Our egg donor base is consisted predominantly of international students studying at various universities in Cyprus. As a result, majority of our egg donors are between 20-24 years of age. This is precisely why our success rates are considerably higher than most of the IVF clinics in the world. Our egg donors are very young and most of them have previous positive donation histories.

In general, our egg donor selection criteria can be summarized as follows:
- women between 20-29 years of age.
- women with BMI's between 19-24
- women with no known hereditary genetic diseases in family.
- women with no mental disability
- women who do not use drugs and do not smoke

Our egg donors undergo a very strict screening process at our clinic before they are admitted to our donation program. All egg donors go through psychological counseling and numerous infectious disease testing as well as karyotype analysis.
