Surrogacy

Our US-based surrogacy program works in a dual phase. The legal work, surrogate recruitment, child delivery and court proceedings all take place in the US while the actual IVF treatment takes place in Cyprus. Cyprus does not have definte laws for surrogacy, therefore, all the legal work involved needs to be done in the US bascked by the US legal system in order to avoid future problems. The fact that your IVF treatment takes place in Cyprus is something that drives the cost down and in fact offers a higher chance of success.

The first step in surrogacy IVF treatment, once the necessary framework has been established, is to design a contract which specifies the rules and the steps involved in thesurrogacy arrangement. Our lawyer in the US is specialized in surrogacy cases and has a very good reputation for it. We will make the necessary legal arrangements, prepare the court proceedings for you to be the legal parents of the child. For a contract to be ready, we will be needing to match you with a surrogate and have everything discussed thoroughly so both parties can agree on common grounds.

Once we have the legal arrangements sorted out, the next step would be to get all your physical features, blood types and any other physical features you would like to specify for the donor matching process if you will be needing an egg donor. Once we find a suitable donor in our database, who fits your physical profile, matches with respect to blood types, and has her menstrual periods around the same dates as the surrogate, we will proceed with the medication stage. In this stage, your donor will receive certain hormone supplements in order to stimulate the egg count and quality. At the same time, the surrogate will receive certain medication in order to have her endometrium ready for a successful pregnancy. If your own egg reserves and egg quality allow us to use your own eggs, then you will not be needing a donor.

Once the donor (or you) and the surrogate are simultaneously prepared, we will have the surrogate fly out to Cyprus for the IVF treatment. At this point, we will perform oocyte retrieval from you or your donor, fertilize with your husband's sperm and create the embryos. The highest quality embryos, in turn will be transferred into the surrogate's uterus on day 3 of fertilization. The surrogate will go back to the US and the treatment will be over. Once the baby is born after nine months, you will make another trip to the US to hold your child for the first time. We are able to transfer up to 3 embryos in a given transfer cycle.

Our main aim is to provide a low cost treatment without sacrificing the quality and reliability. Therefore, we make sure the surrogate is bound by a very well-prepared contract by someone who has significant amount of experience in this field. The actual treatment, is carried out by us. Our success rates are well above world averages, especially in egg donation cases. The reason is, Cyprus is a small country and we tend to contact the donors who have donated before, who have good quality eggs and resulted in a successful pregnancy, thus maximizing the chances of pregnancy, which explains our 81% success rate in 2011, in egg donor IVF cases.

Repeated IVF Failures

IVF failures are one of the most depressing experiences a couple can go through in their IVF journey. Having experienced several failed attempts can be very depressing and frustrating, especially when there is no explanation provided for them. At North Cyprus IVF, we make sure our patients are thoroughly analyzed before attempting another IVF cycle so that some known possibilities can be ruled out. Once a couple go through the standard testing procedures and these tests are inconclusive of the factors of infertility, then additional factors need to be taken into consideration. Some of the possibilities which need to be taken into consideration are as follows:

Uterine infection
The inside of the uterine cavity is normally considered to be a sterile environment. It has been strongly suspected that infection of the uterine cavity with bacteria may cause an inhospitable environment that would lead to failure of embryos to implant. In cases where there is a reason to suspect a uterine infection, an endometrial biopsy procedure may be called for in order to make an effective assessment. Normally, infections can be treated with antibiotic use. There are also other infectious diseases that can be considered during this investigation such as CMV IgG, Chlamydia and more.

Immune factors as a cause for IVF implantation failure
The immune system is designed to protect individuals from infection with microorganisms and to fight off abnormal processes in the body like cancer. In the areas of IVF, infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss, there has been an extensive amount of investigation as to the role of immune factors in the implantation process of the embryos. In some cases, the immune system is believed to see the embryo as a foreign object and reject its implantation.

Thrombophilias
Thrombophilias are conditions that result in an increased chance for blood clotting. There have been many studies showing an association between the presence of thrombophilias in women and the risk for miscarriage. Some studies also indicate that thrombophilias can also be associated with implantation failures. Certain genetic tests help identify the existence of thrombophilias in the female partner.

Surrogacy IVF Treatment Options

We have two options when it comes to surrogacy arrangements.

1- CASS, short for Cyprus-America Surrogacy Services. This service uses an American surrogate to be recruited in the United States in one of the surrogate-friendly states. You will fill out an intended parent application form and we will be able to match you up with a surrogate that fits your criteria. Once your surrogate selection is confirmed, then our lawyers proceed with the contract preparation and the contract is sent to you to review and sign. The contract specifies all the rules of the surrogacy arrangement and includes pointers that protect both your rights as the intended parents and your surrogate's rights. The contract is backed 100% by the US legal system. Your donor is to be identified here in Cyprus based on your physical features, blood types and your surrogate's menstrual period dates. Once the donor selection is confirmed, then we proceed into the next stage where your donor and surrogate prepare for the IVF process simultaneously. Once the treatment is final, your surrogate travels back to the US and your child is delivered after 9 months. You arrive in the US to pick up your child, ready to be taken home with his/her American passport and registration papers.

2- CGSS, short for Cyprus-Georgia Surrogacy Services. This service works very much like the CASS option except that instead of utilizing an American surrogate, the surrogate comes from Georgia, the country. Our agency in Georgia handles all the legal work through the Georgian law. Donor stage is very much the same. The only difference between the two options is the country where the legal aspects are taken care of.

Steps in IVF Treatment - North Cyprus IVF Clinic

Step 1: Making the call.
This is perhaps the most difficult stage of your treatment. Making the right decision necessitates having the right information. This website aims to provide you with the right information so that you can make an informed decision about handling your fertility treatment.

Step 2: Initial Consultation and Screening Tests.
Once you make the decision to proceed, we guide you through the initial screening process, which involves a series of testing and diagnosis in order to choose the right treatment option.

Step 3: Medication Stage
Before you make a trip down to our clinic in Cyprus, we give you a detailed chart of treatment protocol in which we specify what needs to be done on a daily basis and which medication to take. This ensures that you are biologically ready for your embryo transfer stage.

Step 4: Coming to Cyprus
At this point, you have gone through your medication stage and prepared for the rest of your treatment. In regular IVF and sperm donation IVF cases, this is when your eggs are fully developed and ready for retrieval. In egg donation IVF cases, this is when donor's eggs are ready for retrieval.

Step 5: Egg Retrieval
Once the eggs are fully developed, they are ready for retrieval. You (or the donor) will be sedated for this process. A scan probe is passed through the vagina and into the ovary under ultrasound guidance; the fluid from each follicle, which contains the egg, is extracted. It is usual to obtain an egg from about 80% of follicles.

Step 6: Fertilization
The retrieved eggs are fertilized with the sperm to be obtained from the male patient (or the sperm donor). After about 48 - 72 hours from egg collection, the embryos will usually consist of four to eight cells each, and are now ready for placement into the woman’s uterus.

Step 7: Embryo Transfer
Using a vaginal speculum, the cervix is exposed, which is then cleaned. The culture medium containing the embryos is loaded in a catheter with a syringe on one end. The doctor carefully guides the catheter through the vagina and cervix, and deposits the embryos into the uterus. Implantation begins three - four days later.

Step 8: Pregnancy
After about 12 days of the embryo transfer, we request that you get a blood test done for beta hCG, which is the pregnancy hormone which elevates during pregnancy. A beta hCG under 5 mIU/ml indicates that you are not pregnant. A level between 5 - 25 mIU/ml indicates possible pregnancy, which we advise to test again in a couple of days. A level higher than 25 mIU/ml indicates pregnancy.

Step 9: Follow Up
Once you get the good news, you simply dial the phone and let us know. Share the joy :)

Gestational Surrogacy in Cyprus

Many biological and medical reasons prevent some women from carrying a child to term. There could be a number of reasons for this, including failure of the embryo to implant, repeated miscarriages, hysterectomy or a pelvic disorder. Some women experience problems such as dangerously high blood pressure, a heart condition or liver disease, so that pregnancy would entail a serious health risk for them. In some cases, the woman might have born without a uterus or may have had it surgically removed for health reasons. However, women with the aforementioned health problems are not the only people who suffer from childlessness. Same sex couples, especially gay men, are also not able to have their own child without a surrogate mother.

A surrogacy arrangement is one in which one woman (the surrogate mother) agrees to bear a child for a couple (the intended parents) and surrender it at birth. This provides an opportunity for those who are unable to carry a child themselves to overcome their childlessness. There are quite a number of things to be considered before going down this road, however. Even though couples longing for children tend to be more emotional, these emotions should not be reflected upon their decisions. Surrogacy is a delicate matter which needs to be handled very carefully. At North Cyprus Fertility Clinic, we make sure our patients understand the legal, financial and the emotional aspects of consulting surrogacy as an option.

Surrogacy is not legal in many countries, including Northern Cyprus. However, due to a large volume of our patients from neighboring countries, we have decided to establish links with a renowned and a prestigious fertility clinic in Washington DC, United States, which specializes in IVF practices as well as surrogacy arrangements for gay and straight couples. We collaborate with attorney Hilary Neeimann of the United States for provision of surrogacy services to our patients. What we do for our patients is, we run the preliminary work here at our clinic. Patients are able to complete their initial medication stage here in Cyprus at our clinic, where we provide them with free of charge hotel accommodation, airport travels and domestic transfers. Hence, they can avoid large costs of travelling to the United States frequently.
A potential surrogate mother must be in good overall health and be able to undergo a pregnancy with the minimum amount of risk to her own health. Some medical conditions will prevent a woman becoming a surrogate mother, for example, if there are any known medical problems which could lead to complications with the pregnancy, or put the woman at risk. Also those who are considerably overweight, are heavy smokers, drinkers or substance abusers are not suitable as surrogate mothers because of the associated risks both to the woman and the baby. A the risks of illness and problems are much higher in the first pregnancy it is strongly recommended that surrogate mothers should have borne at least one child previously and preferably have completed her own family. This also means that the woman is able to give her “informed” consent to the arrangement, since a woman who has experienced pregnancy prior to the surrogacy arrangement has that knowledge on which to base her decision.

North Cyprus IVF can organize and coordinate surrogacy IVF treatment 100% backed by the US legal system for straight and same-sex couples.
