What is MicroSort?

MicroSort is a scientifically proven preconception process that improves the chances that the baby you conceive will be of the desired gender.

Semen samples usually contain equal amounts of sperm carrying the Y chromosome (which will produce a boy), and sperm carrying the X chromosome (which will produce a girl).

The MicroSort process separates the sperm cells in a semen sample based on the chromosome they are carrying. The process results in samples containing significantly increased percentages of sperm that are carrying the desired (X or Y) chromosome.

The samples processed by MicroSort can be used in a wide variety of artificial reproduction techniques, including intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), among others.

Only MicroSort laboratories have the technology to perform this precise sperm sorting procedure, and we offer this technology in collaboration with clinics and physicians around the world. The availability of MicroSort in specific locations is dependent upon local regulations.

Cryopreservation

Oocyte Freezing

Recent advances in the In Vitro Fertilization process have now allowed us to successfully freeze, store and later thaw and fertilize cryopreserved human eggs. Oocyte cryopreservation is aimed at three particular groups of women: those diagnosed with cancer who have not yet begun chemoterapy or radioteraphy; those undergoing treatment with assisted reproductive technologies who do not consider embryo freezing an option; and those who would like to preserve their future ability to have children, either because they do not yet have a partner, are not ready to have a baby yet but would like to keep this option for future, or for other personal or medical reasons.

The egg-retrieval process for oocyte cryopreservation is the same as that for in vitro fertilization. This includes several weeks of hormone injections and hormonal contraception in order to stop ovulation, followed by more hormone injections to stimulate ovaries and ripen multiple eggs. When the eggs have matured, additional hormone is given and the eggs are removed with an ultrasound-guided needle through the vagina. The procedure is conducted under sedation. The eggs are immediately frozen.

Frozen eggs can be stored for as long as the patient wishes, but this must be stated precisely, otherwise, frozen eggs that are not used within a two-year period are discharged.

Embryo Freezing

Embryo Cryopreservation (embryo freezing) is the freezing of "excess" embryos for use in future IVF cycles. This option is often explored by couples undergoing IVF treatment where the excess embryos that will not be transferred into the uterus are frozen for future use if the IVF attempt fails. Even when the IVF attempt does not fail and the couple is able to conceive, the frozen embryos can be used for the second pregnancy. The major advantage to using cryopreserved embryos in future IVF cycles is that the female does not have to undergo ovulation induction, which also dramatically reduces medication cost. Success rates are variable depending on patient characteristics and embryo quality.
 

This could also be an option for couples who do not wish to get pregnant immediately but would like to prepare their embryos in advance for future use. This way, they can avoid lower success rates of conception at older age.

Microsort in North Cyprus

Microsort is a pre-conception sperm sorting technology developed by Genetics and IVF Institute of the United States. The technology became available through a clinical study where sperm was sorted into those that primarily produce girls and those that primarily produce boys. Through a series of studies, microsort was found to be 90% effective in gender selection for a girl and about 75% effective for gender selection for a boy. Microsort became available in Mexico first.

North Cyprus IVF clinic is proud to announce that Cyprus is going to be the second location in the world to offer Microsort, the pre-conception sperm sorting technology for gender selection for family balancing purposes. Microsort will be available through artificial insemination (IUI), through IVF and through IVF with PGD.

If the sperm separated through microsort is used in IVF treatment, the probability of having a female or a male child will be around 90% and 75% respectively. If microsort is coupled with PGD (pre-implantation genetic diagnosis) where the embryos formed after microsort are subjected to genetic screening both for gender and for certain genetic diseases. Using the two gender selection methods together both enable obtaining a good number of embryos of desired sex as well as screening for further genetic diseases and making sure almost 100% that the procedure will result in a pregnancy with a baby of desired sex.

North Cyprus IVF clinic were FAB! Worked like clockwork from the time I asked for a quote, we were picked up from the airport driver was waiting for us, we stayed in one of their studios and it was lovely, All arranged pickup and appointments were on time and Ahmet and Angie (Patient Co-ordinators) speak prefect english. The clinic deco is a bit dated, but all of North Cyprus is like that. It was extremely clean and tidy at the clinic.

My partner and I have been very impressed with the whole 'Package'. Every effort imagenable was taken by the clinic to ensure that everything was done to give me the best possible chance to have a baby. Nothing was too much trouble. And the main thing is that the price quoted was what we paid, the only extra costs were medications and a blood test, that was clearly stated in the quote that I receive, but the prices were list and I paid what I expect. What was also excellent is that no money was asked for beforehand and infact we paid on the day of transfer and that was because we kept asking (we took cash)

We are now on the 12 day wait..... but they have estimated good percentage for success! so fingers crossed.

Typical Treatment Plan for Microsort with IUI

Cycle Day 1 - Let us know and start taking 1 tablet of Pregnacare per day.

Programa de Tratamiento

A continuación se presenta un plan de tratamiento típico para la FIV con ICSI (y Microsort)

Cycel Día 1 - Vamos a conocer y empezar a tomar 1 comprimido de Pregnacare por día.

Treatment Plan

Cycel Day 9 - Second follicle tracking scan.  If your dominant follicles have reached 14mm you will start with the Cetrotide.

Cycle Day 12 - First appointment at the clinic.

Cycel Day 13 - If dominant follicles have reached 18mm you will have the trigger injection.

Cycel Day 15 - Expected egg collection

Cycel Day 18 - Expected embryo transfer.

7 Tips for Success in IVF Treatment

Even though each IVF treatment is different in itself, there are a number of measures that can be taken in order to maximize your chances of success. In some cases, things that might sound small could make a world of difference in IVF treatment. So let’s be on the safe side and do our part:

1- INITIAL SCAN: Have an ultrasound scan at your gynecologist’s office. This is to make sure there are no fibroids or polyps in the uterus that could jeopardize your chances of success. Also, women who are not undergoing egg donor IVF treatment should make sure there are no cysts in the ovaries that could potentially affect their egg count/quality.

2- INVESTIGATION: If you have previously had a number of miscarriages (with or without IVF), it makes sense to investigate the cause. In most cases where women have repeated miscarriages, there is a genetic reason behind it. Some gene mutations affect your blood circulation and cause you to have a miscarriage (especially up to 12 weeks). These genetic tests include testing for mutations in MTHFR C677T, MTHFR A1298C, Factor V Leiden (G1691A), Factor II (G20210A), and PAI I 4G/5G.

3- VITAMINS: It is important that your take essential vitamins and nutrients prior to and during pregnancy. A supplement such as “pregnacare” includes Folic Acid, B6, B12 and Zinc supplements, which are proven to reduce the likelihood of a miscarriage and support healthy development of your baby. It makes sense to start using such a supplement at least a few feeks prior to your embryo transfer stage.

4- HORMONE TESTING: For women undergoing IVF treatment using their own eggs, it is important that certain hormone tests are done prior to using any IVF medication. These hormone tests include:

FSH, LH, Estradiol and Prolactine. Based on these hormone test results, we will be able to assess your ovarian reserves and egg quality. Also, it these results will be important in identifying your treatment protocol and the dose of medication that needs to be administered.

5- IVF FAILURES: For patients who have had several failed IVF attempts, with no history of pregnancy, it makes sense to have an endometrial biopsy around days 18-21 of menstrual period. An endometrial biopsy will tell whether there is any condition that might prevent implantation and a successful pregnancy. There are also other infections that need to be checked for in this case.

6- INFECTIOUS DISEASES: Prior to embryo transfer, it is vital that certain infectious disease tests are done on both parents. The purpose of these tests is to make sure the newborn does not receive any infection from his/her parents. Some of these test are routine tests, which most of you do not have, such as Anti-HIV, Anti-HCV. These can be done at our clinic prior to embryo transfer. However, some other test results, such ac CMV IgG and Chlamidia might require the use of antibiotics for a certain amount of time prior to emrbyo transfer, therefore, it is important for the female patient to have tested for CMV IgG and Chlamidia once the IVF decision has been made.

7- AVOID STRESS: One of the biggest enemies of IVF treatment is stress. Avoid stress as much as you can when going through IVF treatment. You can take up yoga classes, or join the gym or start a book club, anything that will help you avoid stress will add a couple of percentages to your chances of success.
