Is it legal to choose baby's sex?

Yes, as North Cyprus IVF clinic, we are able to offer gender selection IVF in line with the North Cyrus legal system. Even though gender selection is not allowed in most parts of Europe, having gender selection IVF treatment in North Cyprus is completely legal.

Is gender selection possible without IVF?

Yes, At North Cyprus IVF we are able to offer microsort with IUI (artificial insemination). Microsorting technologies allow for gender selection through IUI treatment. However, microsort is only about 75% accurate for a male child and about 90% accurate for a female child, therefore, combining microsort with PGD always results in a more accurate gender selection method.

Is there a 100% guarantee for success with gender selection IVF?

Even though there is no such thing as 100% in real-life sciences, we quote a 99% chance for accurate sex selection through PGD.

Can I use PGD for genetic screening?

Absolutely! PGD is not only for gender selection. With PGD testing, we can also screen for major genetic disorders associated with chromosomes X, Y, 13, 18 and 21 which are the causes of about 85% of all major genetic disorders.

Can I select the sex of my first child?

Even though at North Cyprus IVF, we recommend that gender selection is only performed for family balancing for second or third child, selecting the sex of your first child is also possible if you believe this is an appropriate family balancing act.

Do I still use medication for gender selection IVF even if I have no fertility problems?

Even if you have no fertility issues and you are able to conceive naturally, we will still need to put you on stimulation medication on order to obtain multiple eggs in the ovaries. This will allow us to fertilize multiple eggs, and perform the necessary genetic testing on them to identify the healthy embryos that are of appropriate sex for the embryo transfer.

What happens to the embryos that are unused?

You have the choice of freezing any unused embryos for future use. If you wish not to freeze them, the embryos are disposed.

Fertility Scans

Fertility Scans

Many couples who are having Fertility Treatment abroad, or at a location some distance from their own home within the UK, want the facility to access an ultrasound scan on a particular day of the menstrual cycle.

Cherish-UK is able to perform the specialist scan and email the result to the chosen clinic. This allows more flexibility for couples and reduces the amount of time spent away from home during the treatment cycle.

Usually clinics request a scan to assess antral follicle count and or a scan to assess endometrial thickness andfollicular development.

During your scan we will explain the findings to you and following your scan we will give you your images and email the report to you. We will email your report to your chosen clinic and if requested we will scan your images and also send them to the clinic.

Why is endometrial thickness important?

During a natural and stimulated cycle, it is important to assess the thickness of the endometrium (womb lining). Endometrial thickness needs to be 7mm or above for a pregnancy to be able to implant.

What is Anti-Mullerian Hormone?

This is a hormone blood test, which provides information regarding ‘ovarian reserve’. This is a term, which is used to reflect the size of the pool of eggs left within the ovary and gives an indication of the likelihood of success during a stimulated cycle. Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) test can be done on any day of the woman’s cycle. Cherish-UK can organise this blood test if required.

Requirements and Recommendations for Microsort

MicroSort is available for couples who are looking to balance their families or prevent certain genetic diseases.

What are the requirements for family balancing?
Couples who want to use MicroSort to balance the genders of their children must:

• Have at least one child
• Sort for the underrepresented gender in the family
• Be negative for HIV, and Hepatitis B surface antigen and C antibody

What are the requirements for couples at risk for X-linked disorders?
Couples who want to use MicroSort to reduce the probability of genetic disease transmission must:

• Be a known carrier of an X-linked or X-limited disorder
• Be negative for HIV, and Hepatitis B surface antigen and C antibody

MicroSort laboratories are not equipped to process infectious samples; therefore all patients must present negative testing results for the following:

• HIV I and II
• Hepatitis B and C*
• VDRL

The mentioned testing can be performed in any certified lab as long as they were performed no more than six months prior to the date of the procedure.

The MicroSort procedure is a demanding process requiring a high number of motile sperm be provided for sorting so that sufficient viable sperm are sorted for use in assisted reproductive techniques. We strongly recommend you provide the results of a semen analysis performed as close as possible to the date of your procedure. These results will provide the semen characteristics that our staff can use to estimate the expected results and plan for any different measures that can be considered based on your semen analysis.

While semen analysis is not a requirement of MicroSort, if your procedure is canceled due to too few viable sperm, there will be a cancellation fee of 40% of the total cost of the procedure.

For best semen quality results, MicroSort recommends:

• Abstinence for two or three days.
• No alcohol consumption during that period.
• No exposure to high temperatures, such as hot water, hot tubs, vapor rooms, etc.

*Patients that have received hepatitis vaccines should get the appropriate tests to avoid false positives.

What is MicroSort?

MicroSort is a scientifically proven preconception process that improves the chances that the baby you conceive will be of the desired gender.

Semen samples usually contain equal amounts of sperm carrying the Y chromosome (which will produce a boy), and sperm carrying the X chromosome (which will produce a girl).

The MicroSort process separates the sperm cells in a semen sample based on the chromosome they are carrying. The process results in samples containing significantly increased percentages of sperm that are carrying the desired (X or Y) chromosome.

The samples processed by MicroSort can be used in a wide variety of artificial reproduction techniques, including intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), among others.

Faits sur l'ovulation

• L'ovulation se produit en réponse à un pic de LH qui est détectable sur une trousse de prédiction de l'ovulation à domicile

• Un œuf ne vit que pour 12 à 24 heures après avoir été libéré par l'ovaire, mais les spermatozoïdes peuvent vivre pendant 3-4 jours à l'intérieur de la femelle après les rapports sexuels

Microsort dans le nord de Chypre

Microsort est une technologie de tri spermatozoïde avant la conception développée par la génétique et de la FIV Institute des États-Unis. La technologie est devenue disponible par le biais d'une étude clinique où le sperme a été réglé entre ceux qui produisent principalement des filles et ceux qui produisent principalement les garçons. Grâce à une série d'études, MicroSort s'est avérée efficace à 90% dans la sélection du sexe pour une fille et environ 75% efficace pour la sélection du sexe pour un garçon. Microsort est devenu disponible au Mexique en premier.

Cryoconservation

La congélation d'ovocytes
Les progrès récents dans le dans le processus de fécondation in vitro ont permis d'assurer le succès congeler, stocker et décongeler plus tard et féconder des ovules humains cryoconservés. cryoconservation des ovocytes s'adresse à trois groupes particuliers de femmes: les personnes atteintes d'un cancer qui n'ont pas encore commencé chemoterapy ou radioteraphy; ceux subissant un traitement avec des technologies de reproduction assistée qui ne considèrent pas la congélation des embryons une option, et ceux qui voudraient préserver leur capacité future d'avoir des enfants, soit parce qu'ils ne possèdent pas encore un partenaire, ne sont pas prêts à avoir un bébé encore, mais voudrait garder cette option pour l'avenir, ou pour d'autres raisons personnelles ou médicales.

Le procédé de récupération d'oeuf pour la cryoconservation d'ovocytes est la même que celle pour la fécondation in vitro. Cela inclut plusieurs semaines d'injections d'hormones et à la contraception hormonale afin de stopper l'ovulation, suivie par plus d'injections d'hormones pour stimuler les ovaires et mûrir plusieurs ovules. Quand les oeufs ont mûri, hormone supplémentaire est donné et les oeufs sont enlevés avec une aiguille guidée par échographie par voie vaginale. La procédure est réalisée sous sédation. Les œufs sont immédiatement congelés.

Ovules congelés peuvent être conservés aussi longtemps que le patient souhaite, mais cela doit être indiqué avec précision, sinon, les oeufs congelés qui ne sont pas utilisées dans un délai de deux ans sont déchargées.


La congélation d'embryons
La cryoconservation d'embryons (congélation des embryons) est la congélation des embryons «excédentaires» pour une utilisation dans des cycles de FIV ultérieures. Cette option est souvent explorée par les couples en traitement de FIV où les embryons surnuméraires qui ne seront pas transférés dans l'utérus sont congelés pour une utilisation future si la tentative de FIV échoue. Même lorsque la tentative de FIV ne manque pas et le couple est capable de concevoir, les embryons congelés peuvent être utilisés pour la seconde grossesse. Le principal avantage de l'utilisation d'embryons cryoconservés dans les futurs cycles de FIV est que la femelle n'a pas à subir une induction de l'ovulation, ce qui réduit aussi considérablement les coûts des médicaments. Les taux de réussite sont variables en fonction des caractéristiques des patients et la qualité des embryons.


Cela pourrait aussi être une option pour les couples qui ne souhaitent pas tomber enceinte tout de suite mais je voudrais préparer leurs embryons à l'avance pour une utilisation future. De cette façon, ils peuvent éviter des taux de réussite inférieurs de conception à un âge avancé.

Sperm Donation

1- Who is a good candidate for sperm donation?
Patients with male factor infertility such as azoospermia or other sperm defects, or males with prior cancer treatment are potential candidates for sperm donor IVF treatment. Patients with genetic disorders that inhibit sperm production or patients with high risks of passing genetic disorders onto their children are also good candidates for sperm donation. Prior to sperm donation, we offer our patients the option of a surgical sperm retrieval option where sperm is retrieved surgically from within the testes to see if any live sperm cells can be found that may not make it to the ejaculate.

Single female patients who do not wish to seek treatment with a partner are also good candidates for our sperm donor IVF treatment program.
 

2- Who are your sperm donors?
The sperm we use come from an international sperm bank with their certificates. We only use certified sperm as certification process requires an extensive testing on the sperm to be repeated at certain intervals. This way, we can guarantee our patients that there are no testable defects on the sperm used in the IVF process.

3- What are your success rate with sperm donation?
Success rates with sperm donation tend to vary depending on the age and hormone profile of the female patient. If the female patient is young with a good hormone profile, then the success rates will be considerably high. However, women after 35 years of age tend to experience a decline in their fertility levels, therefore, the success rates tend to decline. Sperm Retrieval

The usual way of producing sperm for use in Assisted Reproductive Technology is manual stimulation.  In cases where medical or religious factors prevent this, surgical methods can be used:

PESA
PESA (percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration) is a method, performed under local anesthesia, which involves extracting sperm with a fine needle from the epididymis or testes.  The sperm is then implanted into the egg through the process of ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) to be used in IVF.

TESA & TESE

In cases where the epididymis does not contain any sperm, because of impaired sperm production, the method of TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration) or TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction) may be used.  TESE involves a surgical biopsy of the testis, while TESA is performed by sticking a needle into the testis and aspirating fluid and tissue with negative pressure.

MESA The most invasive of the surgical sperm retrieval procedures is MESA (micro-epididymal sperm aspiration), which is performed under general anesthesia. MESA involves the cutting open of the scrotum to retrieve sperm. The wound is closed with dissolvable stitches. Swelling and pain subsides within a few days, during which prescribed painkillers may be taken to ease the pain...

Cryopreservation

Oocyte Freezing

Recent advances in the In Vitro Fertilization process have now allowed us to successfully freeze, store and later thaw and fertilize cryopreserved human eggs. Oocyte cryopreservation is aimed at three particular groups of women: those diagnosed with cancer who have not yet begun chemoterapy or radioteraphy; those undergoing treatment with assisted reproductive technologies who do not consider embryo freezing an option; and those who would like to preserve their future ability to have children, either because they do not yet have a partner, are not ready to have a baby yet but would like to keep this option for future, or for other personal or medical reasons.

The egg-retrieval process for oocyte cryopreservation is the same as that for in vitro fertilization. This includes several weeks of hormone injections and hormonal contraception in order to stop ovulation, followed by more hormone injections to stimulate ovaries and ripen multiple eggs. When the eggs have matured, additional hormone is given and the eggs are removed with an ultrasound-guided needle through the vagina. The procedure is conducted under sedation. The eggs are immediately frozen.

Frozen eggs can be stored for as long as the patient wishes, but this must be stated precisely, otherwise, frozen eggs that are not used within a two-year period are discharged.

Embryo Freezing

Embryo Cryopreservation (embryo freezing) is the freezing of "excess" embryos for use in future IVF cycles. This option is often explored by couples undergoing IVF treatment where the excess embryos that will not be transferred into the uterus are frozen for future use if the IVF attempt fails. Even when the IVF attempt does not fail and the couple is able to conceive, the frozen embryos can be used for the second pregnancy. The major advantage to using cryopreserved embryos in future IVF cycles is that the female does not have to undergo ovulation induction, which also dramatically reduces medication cost. Success rates are variable depending on patient characteristics and embryo quality.
 

This could also be an option for couples who do not wish to get pregnant immediately but would like to prepare their embryos in advance for future use. This way, they can avoid lower success rates of conception at older age.

Microsort in North Cyprus

Microsort is a pre-conception sperm sorting technology developed by Genetics and IVF Institute of the United States. The technology became available through a clinical study where sperm was sorted into those that primarily produce girls and those that primarily produce boys. Through a series of studies, microsort was found to be 90% effective in gender selection for a girl and about 75% effective for gender selection for a boy. Microsort became available in Mexico first.

North Cyprus IVF clinic is proud to announce that Cyprus is going to be the second location in the world to offer Microsort, the pre-conception sperm sorting technology for gender selection for family balancing purposes. Microsort will be available through artificial insemination (IUI), through IVF and through IVF with PGD.

If the sperm separated through microsort is used in IVF treatment, the probability of having a female or a male child will be around 90% and 75% respectively. If microsort is coupled with PGD (pre-implantation genetic diagnosis) where the embryos formed after microsort are subjected to genetic screening both for gender and for certain genetic diseases. Using the two gender selection methods together both enable obtaining a good number of embryos of desired sex as well as screening for further genetic diseases and making sure almost 100% that the procedure will result in a pregnancy with a baby of desired sex.
